There have been some recent developments in the energy sector in Wallonia, Belgium:
-
EIB and Wallonia for Energy-Efficient Public Buildings: The Walloon government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have committed to supporting energy-efficient public buildings in Wallonia1. This initiative will contribute to Wallonia’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels1. The first three public building renovation contracts were signed in Leuze-en-Hainaut1. This programme will renovate 11 public buildings to reduce their energy consumption, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the comfort of building occupants1.
-
Record EIB Financing for Walloon Ambitions: The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Government of Wallonia signed a record €1.1 billion finance contract for the Walloon Region2. This will finance its energy efficiency and flood resilience and rebuilding projects2. The government has mobilised €1.2 billion for the energy efficiency renovation of around 25,000 public housing units in Wallonia2. €800 million will be financed through the EIB2.
-
RenoWatt Programme: RenoWatt is a one-stop shop that carries out energy audits and technical studies to conclude service and works contracts for the renovation of public buildings1. It selects buildings that are in need of renovation, pools them together, launches public procurement procedures and assists public entities in implementing projects1.
These initiatives are part of Wallonia’s efforts to promote energy efficiency and sustainability in the building sector. They provide significant opportunities for those interested in energy-efficient building projects in the region.
